Leading the Future Right From the Start: Dell Med Students Publish Pediatric Brain Tumor Research
Kevin K. Kumar, MD, PhD, is a pediatric neurosurgeon in UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. He specializes in the treatment of pediatric brain and spine tumors, vascular malformations, developmental anomalies, and epilepsy. Additionally, Dr. Kumar is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas at Austin.

Thanks to the expertise and leadership of Dr. Kevin Kumar, MD, PhD and Dr. Elias Rizk, alongside countless nurses, therapists, and specialists, Milah received lifesaving care.

YMBL’s Austin Under 40 Awards recognize emerging leaders across Austin for professional excellence and community impact while supporting Austin Sunshine Camps, which serves children from low-income families through summer and year-round leadership programs. Dr. Kevin Kumar was selected from more than 800 nominees as a 2026 honoree for his work as a pediatric neurosurgeon-scientist at Dell Medical School and Dell Children’s, where he is building translational programs to advance care and new therapies for children with brain tumors.
Dr. Kumar was recognized by Dell Children’s Foundation on Doctors’ Day for his journey to pediatric neurosurgery, his leadership in pediatric neuro-oncology, and his commitment to expanding world-class care for children in Austin.
